Ashington struggled to come to terms with the bigger Darlington forwards who dominated possession for long periods of the game.

Ash always looked dangerous when they had the ball and ran in four excellent tries to get a four try bonus point, but were always second best on the scorecard.

The visitors were 18-0 down after 30 minutes when number 8 Chris Johnson crashed over for a try from a 5m scrum, converted by James Turner, who converted all four tries including one excellent touch line strike.

Ash, 25-7 down at half time, started the second half strongly and excellent hands saw Jonathon Storey cross for Ashingtons second try. Another great backs move saw John Tuck score Ashingtons third which unfortunately came after another Darlington score.

Darlington added a further two scores before Greg Henderson crossed for Ashington’s bonus point try.
