A new vicar has taken up his position in Delaval Parish this month.

The Reverend David Bowler trained for ordination at the Roman Catholic Ushaw College Church in Durham and was ordained at Newcastle Cathedral in 2008.

He served as a curate in Cramlington before being appointed as a full-time NHS chaplain for mental health and learning disabilities at Northgate and St George’s hospitals in Morpeth.

David, 59, said: “I hope to get to know the people of Seaton Sluice and New Hartley, to share with them the love of Jesus and to be available in the good times and the bad.

“The church has always played an important role in supporting people and this will continue.”
