Development: Why extend deadline?

New Hartley opposes housing development, but the council extends the consultation deadline for a third time.

We live in a democratic society. The government and the council have strict policies about equality. Woe betide anyone who does not comply.

Yet, in the case of the housing developer Barratts vs the residents of New Hartley, it seems that everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

The consultation regarding the building of 286 dwellings in New Hartley has received hundreds and hundreds of objections from residents. Yet, the council has extended the deadline of the consultation for the third time to the benefit of the developer. The views of the residents appear to be irrelevant.

Equality! The council is making a mockery of it.
