Dismay over club funding

I wish to question the strange priorities that Northumberland County Council seems to apply in its allocation of funds.

On the one hand, it continually complains that due to Government-imposed austerity measures and reduction in funding levels it is having to close many essential civic facilities.

It has sanctioned, however, the construction of a completely new stand at Ashington FC, when there is already an existing one.

Over a full year, there would hardly be 30 matches played at home so no way would that extra seating capacity compensate for the complete withdrawal of facilities for bowling and squash by the closure of Ashington Leisure Centre.

Over a full year, the patronage of bowling and squash facilities would outnumber easily by tenfold the football spectators.
