I must agree with K Brown’s letter on council tax charges (News Post Leader, March 27).
How can Blyth Town Council warrant an increase of 47 per cent, especially after an increase of 53 per cent the previous year.
Even the energy companies only raised their prices by ten per cent.
The idea of the unitary council, which was forced on us by the then Labour government, was to remove one layer of bureaucracy and therefore reduce costs.
Do we need a town council?
There seems to be a lot of ‘empire building going on. If the ‘lords and masters’ at County Hall want them to take on more services then they should be fully funded by the county.
