Doctor set to return home to new hospital

A medical director is set to return home and take up a leading role at the county’s new specialist emergency hospital.

The medical director of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust will soon return to his north east roots to take up a prestigious new role with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Jeremy Rushmer has been appointed as site medical director for the new Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, where he will lead expert medical teams caring for seriously ill or injured people from across Northumberland and North Tyneside.

He will take up the role at Northumbria part-time from September working closely with trust-wide medical directors David Evans and Dr Derek Thomson as well as Northumbria’s divisional medical director Dr Richard Curless.

Dr Jeremy Rushmer said: “I feel hugely privileged to have led such dedicated teams in North Cumbria.

“I am immensely proud not only of our achievements in reducing mortality and giving more patients a chance of better outcomes and better experiences of safe care, but also the way in which our staff continue to embrace the challenges we face.”
