A drama student from Blyth is fulfilling her acting dreams by studying at an internationally famous academy in New York City, and it’s all thanks to the generosity of a north east charitable trust.
Gemma Hutchinson is studying at the American Music and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) following a grant from the Sunday for Sammy Trust.
Her move to the United States will give her countless opportunities to perform in full-scale, main stage productions and student-directed films, as well as giving her the experience to audition for future parts, potentially in Broadway.
“Without the help of the Sunday for Sammy Foundation I would never have been able to come to America and live this unique opportunity while studying at AMDA,” she said.
“I will be forever grateful for the help and support Sunday for Sammy offers north east talent. I cannot thank it enough.
Gemma’s grant would not have been possible without the proceeds from ticket sales from the biannual Sunday for Sammy concerts, or from the DVDs of every show, of which 75 per cent of the profits goes to the trust. The concerts raise funds to support performers, writers and directors at the outset of their careers.
