Drumming up new interests
Over 50s in Northumberland will be feeling the beat of the Caribbean in a free music session.
A pan drum beginners’ workshop will be held in Cramlington this weekend as part of the First Time For Everything initiative.
The programme has been designed by the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) and Prudential to enable individuals to try something new for free as staying active and social has been proven to help people keep fit and well in older age.
Members of community steel band the Cramlington Caribbean Crew will be passing on their skills at the free event at Northburn Primary School.
They will be teaching the basics of pan drums, and if participants develop a taste for the activity, the band runs classes regularly throughout the north east.
Instruments can be adapted to be played in a seating position if required, and the activity is suitable for all abilities.
Light refreshments will be served after the workshop and there will be an opportunity to hear more about RVS activities for the over 50s.
The session takes place on Saturday, from 11am to 1pm. To book a place contact Louise Parker on 07824 547863, or email email@example.com
