The reading club at Blyth Academy joined in the 15th anniversary of the North East Teenage Book Award at the Centre for Life.

The students had been meeting in the academy’s Open Learning Centre to discuss their views on the six shortlisted books.

And after reading all the books and voting for their favourites the pupils eagerly anticipated the winners’ party.

Story-teller Alec Williams introduced the authors and the young audience listened to their views on writing and how they chose the subjects for their books, including crime, historical events, North Korea and cannibalism.

The group was thrilled when the winner Acid was revealed as it was their top choice.
