YOUNG people have made a difference to their Ashington community by creating an urban garden.
Around 30 involved in the YMCA volunteered their time to create a unique space for the people of Ashington to enjoy, and it was officially opened on Monday by the High Sheriff of Northumberland.
The space was once a derelict piece of land but the youngsters secured funding from SITA Trust, the High Sheriff of Northumberland and Positive Futures.
In opening the garden, The High Sheriff of Northumberland Fiona Sample said: “I hope the good news of this urban garden is going to be heard.
“Congratulations to all those who worked so hard to create something that can be enjoyed by everyone.
“The motto of the YMCA is to belong, contribute and thrive, people will belong here, the children have contributed and I am sure the urban garden will thrive.”
