Emeralds need funding so they can keep marching on

A marching band is looking to drum up support to enable it to keep going.

The East Coast Emeralds display band has been going since 2010 but is in desperate need of funds to pay for travel, uniforms and instruments as it approaches its second competitive season.

A recent dip in the sea, pictured, and a social evening helped raise £1,000, but the band’s 30 members, based at New Hartley Memorial Hall, are still short of cash.

Its plans for this year include travel throughout the north east and to attend the World Jazz Band championships held in Nottingham over the August Bank Holiday weekend and the UK championships at Pwllheli in Wales in October.
