WORK is under way to improve the energy efficiency of more than 90 homes in Ashington.

The £1m project will see Bernicia fit 92 non-brick-built homes in and around Alexandra Road fitted with specialist wall insulation to cut their heating costs by up to 30 per cent.

Many of the homes have already had new doors, double-glazed windows, loft insulation and new boilers installed as part of an £80m five-year homes improvement programme.

A further 90 non-traditional properties on Bedlington’s Stead Lane North estate have also been rebuilt as part of the project.

Steve Williams, investment manager at Bernicia, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide residents with quality features that will save on energy bills and reduce the carbon footprint of their homes and neighbourhood.”
