Festival will aim to bloom

A festival is aiming to help a church's fundraising event to bloom.

St Nicholas Church, in Cramlington, is holding its biennial Flower Festival from Saturday, July 2, to Monday, July 4.

The official opening at 7pm on July 1, will include a concert by St Nicholas Music Group, a preview of the floral arrangements and refreshments.

The theme for this years festival is Faith in Films, with one group of women making hundreds of paper poppies to be used in one of the major designs depicting the Battle of the Somme.

The creation will be constructed in the Porch of St Nicholas church to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Battle.

There will be 25 major floral arrangements designed and created by ladies from the church flower teams and the local Flower Club.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Part of the proceeds will be donated to local charities.
