Melvyn Barnes, owner of Ashington bed shop The Divan Clan, was inspired after seeing the Fenwick window in Newcastle to do his own eye-catching festive display.

A range of items have been donated for the window by members of the public after an appeal was put out.

Melvyn said: “We had the space in the shop window to do a Christmas display and we thought it would be nice to do something ourselves and also keep the lights left on at night so families can have a look at it at any time.

“We’ve had a great response so far, including being tagged in quite a few photos.”

Meanwhile, the De Baliol Care Home in Newbiggin is offering six places to elderly people who may be on their own on Christmas Day to come along for Christmas lunch – call the home on 01670 852017 for more details.
