A man has been fined for illegally storing tyres in close proximity to houses.

Maciej Kucharski, of Milvain Avenue, Newcastle, was sentenced at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ court, for operating a waste facility without the correct environmental permissions at The Garage Site in Ashington.

The court heard how Kucharski was also charged with failure to comply with a notice to remove the waste.

Kucharski pleaded guilty and was fined £640, with criminal courts charge of £150, victim surcharge of £60 and £2,000 in costs.

Dave Edwardson from the Environment Agency, said: “This case should serve as a deterrent to other people who may be thinking about committing such crimes.”
