A million bottles of top quality tap water from the county have been donated to local communities by Northumbrian Water.
The water company’s support for local community and charitable outdoor events has now reached the millionth milestone.
Sarah Pinkerton, Northumbrian Water’s partnerships manager, said: “Northumbrian Water is more than just a water and wastewater treatment provider – it is a regional company that is immersed in its local communities.
“We are proud to be able to support local community events by providing our bottled tap water and it’s great to give something extra back to the customers we serve.”
The one millionth bottle was given out at the Watergate 5k run in Gateshead on Thursday.
The bottled water scheme for charitable events is a popular donation towards some of the county’s most successful fun runs and other outdoor activities staged by local charities.
In the north east more than 150 events were supported with bottled tap water during the past year and have included an activity weekend for the Hebburn and Sunderland Sea Cadets, the British Transplant Games and charity golf days.
