Four wins in a row for Ashington 2nd XI
Ashington 2nd XI made it four consecutive wins with victory at fellow neighbours Bedlington.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat, but after they lost opener Lee Frost early, to what looked like a harsh lbw off Tom Common’s bowling, they struggled to get going with any fluency.
Ashington’s bowlers kept it tight, especially the experienced spinner Doug Potts, who marked his return from retirement with five maidens in a row and one wicket to celebrate.
Alex Storey took 2-13 and Potts 1-4, in what was a strong all-round display from Ashington in the field.
Adam Nichol fell early in the Ashington reply, trapped by Sri Lankan bowler Susantha, lbw for three.
However, Ashington cruised to their victory target of 105, Scott Dunn made 57 not out and Matthew Storey made an unbeaten 35.
After the game, captain Josh Robinson said: “I was pleased with the first innings as everyone bowled well and did their jobs in the field.
“It was a shame we didn’t bowl them out to claim maximum points, but we stuck at it well.”
This weekend Ashington 2nds host Shotley Bridge.
