Family Mediation North East, which has an office in Ashington, is offering free half-hour consultations to help people find out whether mediation could help them.

They are available during Family Mediation Week, which runs from January 22 to 26.

Sarah-Jane Turnbull, from Family Mediation North East, said: “Many people thinking about separation or divorce believe that they will inevitably find themselves in court – but it doesn’t have to be that way.

“Family mediation helps families make the best arrangements for the children or financial settlements, without a court imposing decisions on them, and research shows that children benefit enormously when families resolve their own conflicts.

“It is faster, less costly and, crucially, less adversarial than the court process.

“There is legal aid available, not only for the mediation process but to seek advice about making arrangements legally binding where that’s in the interests of the children.”

To arrange a free half-hour consultation with a trained family mediator in the office at Ashington Workspace, call Family Mediation North East on 01670 528441.
