A care home is serving up a tonic for loneliness after opening a Listening Post Cafe.
The facility has been set up at Bridge View care home in Ashington Drive as the brainchild of talk and listen support worker Rita Clark.
Rita has transformed a dining room into the cafe, where residents can meet each other, their families and staff to chat.
Home manager Ann Mielnik said: “Sometimes it can be a struggle for people to come out of their shell, but our cafe provides a pleasant and calm environment, as well as creating more opportunities for staff to get to know residents even better.
“It is definitely something that could be adopted throughout the care industry to drive inclusion.”
The home is now thinking of expanding the facility.
Rita said: “I could never have imagined such a positive response.”
