Green-fingered Ashington residents have taken part in a competition to find the town’s best gardeners.
The competition, organised by Ashington Town Council, has grown year on year since its inception in 2010.
The awards event took place at Ashington Cricket Club where the Mayor of Ashington, Coun Maggie Lang, and Beverley Porteous and Natalie Dalton from the Shades of Green Garden Centre, presented the prizes.
The overall winner was Richard Timson, who also won the Best Allotment Garden’ category for his work on the Woodhorn Road site.
The other winners were Robert Ramm for Best Large Garden, Allen Head for Best Senior Citizen Garden, Kay Merideth, Jean and Ian Callon for Best Disabled Person’s Garden, Norman and Jenifer Hobbs for Best Small Garden, and Helen Hall won for Best Hanging Basket.
The winners each received certificates, a shield, engraved glass awards and vouchers for the Shades of Green Garden Centre.
Coun Lang said: “We are delighted that a record number of gardeners took part.”
“The competition is a way of recognising and rewarding the excellent gardening work undertaken by individual residents and is making a significant contribution to improving the town’s appearance.”
