GAS mains in a part of Blyth are to be upgraded at a cost of £100,000.
Northern Gas Networks (NGN) is replacing around 1.4km of ageing metal mains with modern plastic pipe.
The work will take place in Lonsdale Avenue, Glendale Avenue, Avondale Avenue, Kittybrewster Road, Ennerdale Road and Ullswater Close and be completed by the end of March.
As the project covers a mainly residential area, NGN said it is not expected to cause any disruption to road users.
NGN’s Dean Shepherdson said: “We always work hard to minimise disruption wherever we are working and it is our priority to get the job done as quickly and safely as possible.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause but it is important that it is carried out now to protect future supplies.
“In addition, the new pipes we are putting in are more durable and flexible with an expected lifespan of around 80 years, so the good news is that once we are done, we won’t need to come back for some time.”
