Generations of friends
Young people have been making new friends in a project to bridge the generations.
A group of 15 youngsters from Blyth have organised a befriending the elderly programme as part of their National Citizen Service, which aims to give them the chance to develop skills and make positive change in their community.
The work has seen the youngsters visit The Oaks care home in the town, where they organised arts and craft activities and armchair exercises, gave manicures and sang wartime songs with residents.
Team member Ariane Cornall, 16, said: “The project BeFriending Generations, or BFG for short, is about achieving dreams and happiness, and this is what we would like to bring to our elderly community.”
The group also organised events in Newcastle and helped people with gardens.
