Blyth Development Trust and Keel Row Shopping Centre, in Blyth, have teamed up to collect Christmas gifts for distribution through local charities operating in the Blyth area.

Among those who have backed the initiative are Bliss Mediation, a local organisation providing counselling, training and other vital services; St Oswald’s Hospice, which offers support to families dealing with terminal illness; and Northumberland Children Services, which offers a wide range of support services to local families.

Up until December 12, tags will be hung on the Christmas tree at Keel Row Shopping Centre in Blyth. Participants can pick a tag and then buy a gift of their choice suitable for someone of the age and gender described on the tag.

They can then drop their unwrapped gift off at the shopping centre or any of the following participating businesses – Les Belles Hair Salon, Argos and Wilkinson’s.

A spokesman said: “Christmas is a time for sharing so help us to do our bit for those less fortunate. Help us to make a child in your area happy this Christmas.”
