A Northumberland teenager has won two gold medals at a regional kickboxing tournament.
Lewis Pearce, from Newbiggin, won the honours at the South Tyneside Open Tournament, securing his entry to the World Kickboxing Association World Championship in Spain later this year.
The 13-year-old has only been training in the sport at the Kuei-Ling Martial Arts, in South Tyneside, for a year, and has already attained green belt.
Lewis won fights in the age 13-16 category, under 55kg, with less than two years’ training, in points and continuous matches.
His parents Craig and Maria Pearce are proud of his achievements and excited for his chance to take part in the world championship and represent Great Britain.
Mum Maria said: “It’s such a surprise the change in him.
“He was a shy kid, with little confidence, the training has brought him out in so many ways.
“He has achieved a lot in such a small amount of time.
“We are so proud of his achievements.”
