Golfers' generous donation to RNLI
Volunteers from Newbiggin RNLI recently received a donation of £570 from Newbiggin Golf Club after representatives from the lifeboat station were invited to a special awards at the club.
The golf club has supported the local RNLI for many years, with the money being presented coming from the Captain’s Charity Day.
The Newbiggin lifeboat golf day was started more than 20 years ago by a husband and wife team – Harry and the late Vera Smith, former vice president of the Newbiggin Ladies Lifeboat Guild.
Over the years, they worked tirelessly in a fund-raising partnership with the golf club, many golfers locally and generous sponsors.
In recent years, the event has become part of the Captain’s Charity initiative.
In recognition of this long-term support from the club, lifeboat volunteers presented it with a commemorative shield.
