Grandson restores old butcher's bike

Ian Adams carried out the work while doing a course on cycle mechanics at North Seaton’s construction training unit.

“I started Level 1 in July last year and don’t know what I will do on Wednesdays when I finish Level 2 in February,” said Ian.

“The course has been great fun, I have learned loads and my dad will be delighted I have been able to fix up my grandfather’s vintage bike. I am hoping to hire it out for period dramas and will ride it if required.”

The bike, made in 1934, was used for deliveries.

Course tutor Trevor Bell said: “It is very satisfying to see all the new skills and knowledge be put into use by the learners who get the extra benefit of working on their own bikes. Ian has done a great job on this rare classic vintage butcher’s bike which demonstrates his passion and skill. I am always proud of what my learners can achieve in six months and it will be fantastic if he can ride into a business opportunity.”

The next course starts on January 30.
