Young people are getting a better byte at the jobs market, thanks to a regional mining company.

The Banks Group, which employs more than 200 people at its Brenkley Lane and Shotton surface mine sites near Cramlington, has donated £2,834 to the Silx Employability Project in Blyth.

The service provides help to 16 to 25-year-olds to get into employment, training or return to education, and the grant, awarded through the Banks Community Fund, has enabled it to buy eight new laptops and software.

Funding officer Pauline Blake said: “We hope the new laptops will help to attract more people in to see how we can help them.”
