Guides look to fund cost of the buses

Leaders and senior members of a girl guides division are aiming to raise money for their local community at an event this weekend.

The members from Ashington, Ellington and Bedlington are hoping to bring in £500 at a coffee morning to benefit local girls aged from five to 25.

The money will pay for coaches to take the girls to ‘Big Brownie Birthday’ events in 2014.

They will be a celebration of 100 years of the organisation and will be marked throughout the year.

Leader and division commissioner Gillian Teasdale said: “We are hoping the community will support us as we’d like to take every young member of Ashington Girlguiding to at least one event.

“These events help girls to grow in confidence and meet new challenges, whilst having a great time.

“If we can subsidise the transport the events can be affordable for all our girls.”

Senior section leader Angela Ternent said: ‘’A coffee mornings is a great way for us to mingle with our local community and we invite everyone to come and join us for a cup of tea and a cake.’’

The fundraising morning will be held at Trinity Church, Station Road, Ashington, on Saturday, from 10.15am to 12.15pm.
