A youngster had them rolling in the aisles when he made it through to the finals of a national competition.

Ten-year-old Harry Purdy, from Seaton Delaval, was one of 20 children in the final of the Voice Box joke-telling contest at Speaker’s House in London.

The Cleaswell School pupil was presented with a certificate after delighting the packed audience of politicians, parents and children with his joke: What’s green and goes to summer camp? A boy sprout.

Mum Debra said: “It’s been a fantastic day and a great opportunity. Harry’s really enjoyed it and has met some really interesting people.”

It was hosted by House of Commons Speaker John Bercow.
