Tracy Turner is taking part in a sponsored head shave for Macmillan Cancer Support on May 29, which she is calling s-day, and she has already raised more than £800.

This date is when her dad, Bob Brown, would have turned 70.

Tracy Turner will have her head shaved for charity on May 29.

He died on January 4, 2015, after an 18-month battle with lung cancer.

He loved playing snooker and pool for many years and was the long-time treasurer for the Blyth and District Pool League. He played for his local team, the Kings Arms.

It has two divisions – a Premier Division and Division One – and the top one was named The Bob Brown Premier Division in recognition of his efforts and longevity within the league.

Tracy’s mam, Brenda, handed out the trophies at the league’s 2015 presentation evening.

“He was a great man, dad and husband and a doting grandad and I miss him lots,” said Tracy.

“My dad was well loved in the local community. He worked at Burberry in Blyth for 11 years and made great friends when he was there.

“He loved life and he did three bungee jumps in his 60s to raise money for great charities. He was the life and soul of the party – everyone loved him.

“The Macmillan nurses were so supportive when my dad was alive.

“I wanted to give something back to them to say thank you and I decided that getting my head shaved would be a good way to raise a decent amount of money for the charity.

“I was committed to doing it as soon as I got the first donation online.

“The support so far has been fantastic and it shows what people thought of my dad.

“My husband Andrew will be the one shaving all my hair off at our home in Cowpen and he’s actually looking forward to s-day. My mam will be coming along and I think a few tears might be shed.”
