Head to head for mock trial

A competition aimed at introducing the legal system to young people in an innovative and exciting way will take place in Bedlington next month.

The Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the Citizenship Foundation, will see teams from Cramlington Learning Village, Morpeth Chantry School, Morpeth Newminster School, Seaton Sluice Middle School and Alnwick’s Duke’s Middle School competing against each other at South East Northumberland Magistates’ Court on March 15.

The students will enact a specially written case in which the defendant stands accused of dishonestly receiving a stolen bicycle.

Last year the High Sheriff Harriet Benson was very impressed by the standard of the contestants and how articulate she found them.
