Health bosses have been recognised for the leadership shown in their trust with two regional awards.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust triumphed in the North East NHS Leadership Recognition Awards with accolades for its board and equality and diversity lead Patrick Price.
As regional winners, the trust now goes through to the national finals in February 2015.
Judges praised the trust’s strong leadership of its hospital, community and adult social care services and its ‘clear vision and strategy’.
Brian Flood, chairman of Northumbria Healthcare, said: “We are delighted that the leadership of our board has won this award for the second consecutive year.
“With around 8,500 staff across Northumberland and North Tyneside, we work extremely hard to ensure that every one of our staff has a voice and are listened to.
“We are very proud of our supportive culture where our staff feel their role makes a real difference to patients and there are equal opportunities for career progression and promotion.
“We encourage and empower all of our staff to make improvements to patient care and become leaders themselves and we look forward to the national awards in February.”
Patrick, who is the trust’s equality and diversity lead and lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) champion, won the NHS Leader of Inclusivity of the Year Award for his commitment to making the trust a more inclusive and diverse organisation for staff and patients.
Patrick said: “Our trust has made a real commitment to equality and diversity which I have experienced personally and had the opportunity to support professionally.
“I am very proud to have won this award.”
Mr Flood added: “I would like to congratulate Patrick on his award which is testament to all his hard work to promote equality and diversity in our trust.”
