A Blyth woman is preparing to trek a 100km stretch of the Great Wall of China in memory of her mum.
Helen Smith will take on the challenge this October to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society after her mum, Mary Jamieson, died from the disease last year.
Helen said: “The disease claimed the last 15 years of her life and I’m hoping that by raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society that more support can be provided for carers as well as allowing the society to continue its search for a cure.
“The Great Wall of China has to be one of the top 20 journeys of a lifetime and I’m training pretty hard for the 100km trek.
“It will be the first time I have visited China or done anything quite as adventurous as this, so I’m really excited about it all.”
Helen is looking to raise more than £3,000 for the trip, which starts and finishes in Beijing, with time for sightseeing included in the schedule.
