Two organisations are teaming up to ensure the county’s most vulnerable people get the help they need when the way benefits are paid changes.
Benefits for people with mental and physical disabilities is changing are changing, and Age UK Northumberland andNorthumbrian Citizens Advice want to make sure people get the practical help they need.
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is being phased out for people aged between 16 and 64 and being replaced by Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
There are some key differences to the new system.
Deb Still, from Age UK Northumberland, said: “We’re concerned that the implications of these new arrangements, which touch the
daily lives of some of the county’s most vulnerable people, might not be well understood.
“It’s a particular issue if people don’t deal well with paperwork because of their disability or are coping alone.”
