Sharon Ross decided to give it another go in August 2016 – she went along to one of the groups at the Masonic Hall in Ashington run by Norma Green.

She has lost six-and-a-half stone since then and after deciding she wanted to help others with their weight loss, she applied to become a consultant.

Following a successful interview and training, Sharon is now in charge of groups on Tuesdays at the YMCA on North View.

She said: “It didn’t work out when I previously went to Slimming World because I had it in my head that I had to lose seven stone as quickly as possible.

“This time, I focused on gradually losing weight and this approach enabled me to lose a significant amount of weight over the course of a year.

“I decided to look into becoming a consultant – I thought that if I could do it, I know I could help others to lose weight.

“Norma came with me to the open day to find out more about the role and she has been really good in helping me to prepare.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me and as these particular groups at the YMCA were being covered by relief consultants – having some stability and a regular face will hopefully be helpful to the people who go along.”

The start times for her three groups are 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
