History film on the war

A new historical DVD looking back at the impact of the Second World War on the region has been released.

Sixtownships Community History Group has put together The Home Front Years, 1939-1945, the North of England, which looks at the impact of the conflict on Northumberland, Tyneside and County Durham.

The film features archive footage and still photographs from during the war, and then the celebrations of VE Day.

John Dawson, of the group, said: “This is the first time ever that a compilation has been put together to include our areas in the north of England.”

The DVD costs £5.49, although it is free to schools, and is available from www.sixtownships.org.uk or from Al’s Superstore in Ashington.
