Home opens its doors
A special Geordie-themed open day was held for care home residents and members of the community.
Astor Court care home, in Cramlington, hosted the event as part of National Care Home Open Day.
Residents, staff and guests of the home, which is owned by national group Countrywide care homes, enjoyed a full day of local culture, from a local history talk, singing along to a traditional folk songs performance, and enjoying live music from Northumbrian Pipers.
Activities coordinator Richard Dobinson said: “We feel the message of National Care Home Open Day is a really important one.
“We believe it’s very important to maintain a close relationship with people and organisations in the local area to make sure that our residents remain an active part of community life.”
The Care Home Open Day is now in its fourth year. Each year is themed, with this year’s theme being ‘celebration’.
Richard added: “Most of our residents have lived in the area for the vast majority of their lives and we thought that a ‘Blaydon Races’ themed open day was a great way to celebrate the local area and community, and the happy memories we have of our lives in the north east.”
