This is the final week for entries into this year’s Pride of Northumberland Awards.
Dozens of nominations have made their way to Northeast Press to be in with a chance of winning one of the awards.
And once the closing date of 5pm, Friday, August 16, has passed these will be looked at in detail.
Now in its fifth year, Pride of Northumberland, organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the News Post Leader, Morpeth Herald and Northumberland Gazette, and Tweeddale Press, publishers of the Berwick Advertiser recognises the hidden heroes of our communities.
But if you know someone who deserves to be recognised then you need to submit your entry as soon as possible.
There are ten different categories – Child of Courage, Child of Achievement, Fundraiser of the Year, Role Model, Green Champion, Good Neighbour, Community Group, Community Champion, Safer Community, Sporting Achievement and Student of the Year.
There are numerous reasons why people are nominated for awards.
They may have worked tirelessly to serve their community, gone above and beyond the call of duty or done something amazing for the good of others.
For the children’s awards, they may have excelled beyond expectations, bravely fought a battle or managed to succeed against the odds.
Whatever the reason we know there are lots of unsung heroes who deserve their time in the spotlight.
News Post Leader editor Ian Arkle said: “We want people to get the recognition they deserve.
“Over the last five years we have seen so many different winners for numerous different reasons and it is heartwarming to hear their stories.
“The awards night promises to be full of laughter and fun, and when it comes to the children’s awards, there are not any dry eyes in the place.
“Make sure you get your nominations in for those who you think deserve to be recognised.”
Entries must be received by tomorrow at 5pm by any of the means detailed in the article on the right.
Once nominations close a shortlist will be drawn up. Judges, which include sponsors of the event, will then pick their top three.
These people or groups and their guests will then be invited to a special ceremony at Linden Hall Hotel near Longhorsely on Thursday, September 12, with winners announced on the night.
