Horse and traps are on the increase

Are my wife and I the only ones who have noticed the increase in horses and traps on our roads in Ashington? I think not.

On an increasing number of occasions motorists are getting stuck in traffic jams caused by youngsters riding carts on the roads, sometimes more than one cart, and sometimes followed by kids riding horses bareback.

On Monday, May 19, a sunny afternoon, my wife and I went for a walk along the promenade at Newbiggin. At the start of the prom there was what appeared to be a family, with six horses and a cart/trap near the children’s playground, one of the group then decided to go for a trot along the prom, bareback.

With elderly people, kids and people with dogs already walking on the prom, this was so dangerous it was stupidity beyond belief.

People with the power need to take notice and get something done before it becomes endemic or worse and someone gets seriously hurt.
