MORE than 1,000 TV licence dodgers were caught in south east Northumberland last year, latest figures reveal.
Around 500 offenders apiece were discovered to be watching television without a licence in Blyth and Ashington, and a further 150 were found out in Bedlington.
TV Licensing spokesman Tim Downs said: “We are committed to tackling evasion and enforcing the law among the small minority who should pay, but don’t. It’s only fair.
“People are given every opportunity to pay, but, if they fail to do so and watch TV illegally, we will seek a prosecution.
“The penalty is a fine of up to £1,000.”
