MORE than a thousand people turned out for a youth festival held in Blyth’s market square.

The event, organised by the town’s Silx Teen Bar and Northumberland County Council, featured sport and arts activities, as well as music.

Blyth mayor Kath Nisbet said: “The event was much needed to give the young people somewhere they could go along and enjoy themselves.”

Silx senior youth worker Jackie Long said: “Silx Teen Bar was delighted to be able to offer the young people and their families a fantastic free day out, with an opportunity to participate in a range of activities.

“The feedback received has been fantastic, and we definitely think that the market square should be used more often to provide similar events for the community of Blyth.”
