Once again Ashington started poorly and gifted North Shields an early try well converted from the touchline.

After their poor start Ashington began to exert pressure and a great tackle by Nathan Whitworth set up a penalty, which was well converted by Elliot.

Elliot then hit the crossbar with a second penalty before an interception try by North Shields when Ash were in another strong attacking position extended the visitors lead.

North Shields scored a third try after a missed tackle in the centre to give them a 17-3 lead after 20 minutes.

Ash dominated most of the next 20 minutes, adding another penalty from Elliot, before Gareth Bewick wrestled his way over for a well deserved try, again converted by Elliot to make the score 17-13 to Shields at half-time.

The second half was a scrappy affair, with dropped passes, knock-ons and missed opportunities by both sides.

North Shields extended their lead with a fourth try, again from an interception, as the game became niggly and indisciplined.

And it was this indiscipline which cost Ashington a point at the end of the game.
