Jet-ski signs to be put up in answer to safety plea

Fears over the risks posed by jet-skis at Newbiggin Bay are being acted on by Northumberland County Council.

Newbiggin Town Council and the Newbiggin Forward organisation had asked for the craft to be banned because of concerns for swimmers’ safety.

County council democratic services manager Paddy Gascoigne told a meeting of the authority’s south-east committee at Blyth last week that action was in hand.

The first step would be to erect signs at the two access points to the beach informing people that the launch of jet-skis there is banned.

The only remaining stretch of the Northumberland coast along which the craft are allowed is at Blyth.
