A popular pub has been shortlisted for two prestigious national industry awards.

The Hastings, in Seaton Delaval, has been nominated in two categories – Best Turnaround Pub and Best Partnership Pub – in The Great British Pub Awards.

Landlords Peter Evans and Paul Thompson are one of only four north east pubs to be shortlisted, and the only established in two categories.

They will now travel to London for the awards ceremony in October.

Peter and Paul said: “While winning would just be the icing on the cake, we are happy to celebrate getting there in the first place.

“We would like to thank all the staff at The Hastings, our customers and our supporters who have made this possible.

“This is an achievement for all of Seaton Delaval, not just us two. We’re proud to be part of this community.”

The duo took on the pub in February 2014 with the held of a £180,000 joint refurbishment with Star Pubs & Bars.

Lawson Mountstevens, managing director at Star Pubs & Bars, said: “Peter and Paul have done a fabulous job at The Hastings making it the beating heart of its community. It’s great to see their hard work recognised in this way.”
