Those of you who read my column will know I am never slow to praise the young people of my constituency and it has been one of the delights as a Member of Parliament to see just how many wonderful youngsters there are that we can be so very proud of in our area.
Since I became Wansbeck’s MP I have made it my mission to visit every school in my constituency, and I am delighted to say I have virtually achieved that goal.
Very shortly I will be visiting Ashington College, the James Knott Campus, Bedlington Station Primary and All Saint’s School in Morpeth, and I know full well they will be occasions I will eagerly look forward to.
I believe it is vitally important that young people learn about the workings of parliament, and what always impresses me when I meet young people of all ages is the keen interest they show in what goes on at Westminster and their willingness and eagerness to quiz me on my work as an MP.
It is also one of my great pleasures to welcome students from Wansbeck schools to the Commons during their visits to London, and I have to say that, without exception, when I have done so our visiting youngsters have been an absolute credit to themselves, their families and their schools.
I am always more than happy to do this, as well as visiting local schools when I am back in Wansbeck. My office will happily try to accommodate visits to the Commons and local schools into my schedule.
