LAMPPOSTS: Let's have some action

More than four weeks ago, council contractors dug holes in Deerfell Close, Ashington, to fit new lampposts in order to bring them up to British standards regarding height.

Could they not have put an extension on top of the existing posts?

The one outside my drive, and also many others, are sound in the ground.

The light outside my drive has not worked since the excavation.

Furthermore, the contractors were diverted to a job in Berwick and have not returned.

Is the lighting team just four-strong?

Neighbours contacted by Galliford Try on October 23 said that connections will be looked at and reinstatement of light soon after, even though the contractor states that there are no works currently under way.

On November 7, contractors arrived to take pictures of the holes after many complaints.

However, they said they do not know when the work will be completed.

To our horror they said that the wires in the open hole were still live, and had anyone, especially children, touched them they would have been electrocuted.

It would have just taken a Hallowe’en prank to go wrong and in the worst case scenario the council would have had a death on its hands.

We, the residents, deserve better.

We pay for it via tax so let’s have some action.
