A WEBSITE promoting events and activities in Northumberland is closing in on a milestone.

Northumberland County Council’s ‘What to do in Northumberland’ Facebook page is closing on in 10,000 ‘likes’.

And when they hit the milestone, the council will offer a family ticket to The Alnwick Garden to see ‘Sparkle’, phase one of a new permanent lighting installation.

The Duchess of Northumberland unveiled the lighting project on November 24, transforming The Garden’s iconic hornbeam tunnels into a spectacle of light and colour.

The council recently won a CIPR Pride award for its use of social media to engage with residents.

Coun Neil Bradbury, executive member for customer and cultural services at the council, said: “As social networking sites become increasingly popular, the council recognises it is an important tool to reach and engage with residents.

“10,000 fans is an important milestone and hopefully we will have many more to celebrate in the future.”
