A Cramlington woman is taking her sisterly support to new heights after signing up for a fundraising skydive.
Lauren Smith, of Crofters Close, is planning to complete a 15,000ft parachute jump at Peterlee later this month in aid of Heart Research UK.
The 20-year-old was moved to take on the challenge after her brother Craig, 23, was diagnosed with congenital heart disease six years ago.
After complaining of chest pain, he was taken to Wansbeck Hospital, and later the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, where tests revealed he had a hole in his heart, along with three other heart defects.
However, he has been able to lead a relatively normal life, apart from losing his breath quickly with physical activity.
Ms Smith, a sales assistant, said: “I’m really excited for the skydive, having always wanted to do one, but what I’m more excited about is raising money that will help people with heart conditions like my brother’s.”
Ms Smith hopes to raise £500 at the event on September 27. You can sponsor her at www.justgiving.com/Laurensmith-skydive
