Blyth went down at home for the first time when Blue Flames completed the double over the league leaders.

Blyth had to make five changes due to holidays and work and drafted in second team players. Blue Flames had to bat first after turning up late.

They had A Riaz to thank for nearly half their runs. He scored 62 almost at a run a ball. His 50 came from 53 balls in 65 minutes. His innings ended when Cotterill caught him off Lawrence. He faced 65 balls hitting nine fours and two sixes.

Only three other batsmen reached double figures. Chapman with 10, N Amin with 15 and I Khan with 11.

Bowling figures for Blyth were A Kemp 2-42, D Ebdale 1-29, M Lawrence 4-33 and A Ebdale 3-28.

Blyth’s innings started well with Rowell and Kirkup, however, with 24 on the board Baig and Horner blew the top order away.

Five wickets went down for five runs. Lawrence and Smith got Blyth back in the game with a 41-run partnership. But, F Amin took three wickets with Blyth still short of batting points.

Quinn, Kemp and Dave Ebdale took Blyth to 112 when Horner took the final wicket. Lawrence 22 and Smith 33 were the main run scorers.

Kirkup with 15 and Kemp were the only others to reach double figures.

Flames’ bowling figures were: A Horner 3-32, B Baig 4-40, F Amin 3-16 and A Khan 0-22. Blyth 6 points, Blue Flames 27.

Blyth seconds had to concede their game against Stobswood due to a lack of players, with so many away.

Next weekend, Blyth 1sts travel to play Stobswood 1sts with a 1pm start. Blyth 2nds are at home against Rock, also with a 1pm start.
