A youngster from south east Northumberland has been named the winner of a shopping centre’s art competition following a public vote.

Six-year-old Libby Watson, from Newsham Primary School, has been named the winner of Keel Row’s Favourite Primary School Teacher Art Competition.

Four primary schools across Blyth got involved in the competition, with more than 600 entries pouring in from Croftway Primary School, Horton Grange Primary School, Newsham Primary School and The Dales School.

Pupils were asked to draw a picture of their favourite teacher and to write what was special about them.

The public then cast their votes on line and in the centre for their favourite picture.

Libby drew a picture of her teacher David Gregory who was presented with a framed copy of Libby’s winning drawing.

Libby was handed a trophy and a hamper of art supplies in recognition of her efforts.

Keel Row’s centre manager, Callum Reid, said: “We wanted to recognise the outstanding work our teachers do with our younger generation and give the children a way of offering their thanks by asking them to draw a picture of their favourite teacher.”
